JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, NV, the Branch Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Sample Preparation team and coordinating the processing of customer samples by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices.
Working conditions include: sedentary work, as well as dusty and noisy work environment involving medium to heavy lifting (must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs for 10 feet) and repetitive tasks.
There may be some exposure to flammable material and moving mechanical parts.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Sample Preparation Supervisor Branch position.
Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Responsible for employee management including interviewing, hiring, providing both technical and safety training, scheduling, conflict resolution, disciplinary action and termination of employees
Carry out sample receiving and preparation procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions.
Maintenance of training matrix and records of all sample preparation employees
Ensure proper functioning of Sample Preparation Branch operations by:
Monitoring work flow and coordinating on basis of sample age and priority status
Monitoring staffing levels and coordinating staff to meet sample volumes
Training and orienting new staff to the Sample Preparation (including Receiving) procedures
Overseeing staff and ensuring that Sample Preparation (including Receiving) procedures and other work instructions are followed
Ensuring current QA/QC protocols are being followed
Monitoring QC performance of equipment such as: dryers, ovens, crushers, pulverizers, balances etc.
Maintaining an adequate inventory of consumables
Practicing good housekeeping.
Communicate general issues to the Operations Manager, NV as appropriate.
Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the Operations Manager, NV
Report any unsafe condition(s) observed in the facility to the Operations Manager, NV
Report any non-conforming work, customer samples or test data to the Operations Manager, NV.
Submit to testing for silica exposure as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
